Horse Human Connection.jpg

The Vision

Decreasing the loss of horses from foot disease;
and thus, extending the horse-human partnership.

IFEPR aims to significantly decrease the incidence of foot pain and disease in horses, the leading cause of equine death.
As a result, the life and longevity of the domestic horse will increase, adding years to the lifespan of the human-horse partnership and bond.

The Problem

Foot disease accounts for 89% of deaths in horses

Entire industries, schools, and tradecraft have sought to resolve the health issues related to the horse’s foot. Laminitis, for example, remains a leading cause of death in the equine community. And yet, there is no veterinary research institution with a long-term, focused approach to understanding the natural biologic capabilities and limitations of the tissues of the equine foot; an engineering marvel.

The Solution

Equine podiatry educational materials and viable commercial solutions, backed by scientific research, benefit the worldwide equine community.

Through scientific research, IFEPR takes a long-term, focused approach to obtaining a foundation of knowledge surrounding the three purposes of the equine foot; concussion absorption, support of mass, and how movement is generated. Understanding the forces on the tissues in the foot will improve the overall health and fitness of the equine. By obtaining this foundation of knowledge, materials are developed to improve function and decrease the incidence of equine foot disease.
